Wire Rope Drum, also known as crane drum or hoist drum, is an essential component in lifting machinery. It is used to wind and guide wire rope during lifting, lowering, and pulling operations, helping cranes, hoists, winches, and other lifting equipment move loads smoothly and safely.
The drum is commonly used in single girder overhead cranes, double girder overhead cranes, gantry cranes, port cranes, ship winches, beam lifting machines, winches, three-dimensional garages, and other lifting systems. A proper drum design helps maintain wire rope arrangement, reduce uneven winding, and support stable transmission during crane operation.

A typical crane drum can include drum shaft, flange, annular gear, drum hub, bearings, bearing pedestal, and groove surface. According to the lifting mechanism and rope arrangement, the drum can be designed as smooth drum, spiral groove drum, single drum, double drum, or special groove drum for specific lifting applications.
For demanding lifting applications, the groove surface can be quenched and heat treated to improve hardness, wear resistance, and service life. Material, groove form, drum diameter, shaft arrangement, heat treatment, inspection method, and mounting structure should be selected according to lifting capacity, rope diameter, lifting height, speed, working duty, and equipment type.
